CSK 1680

17th Century | Germany

The owner of this early cross stitch sampler, Mrs I. Bloemer from Frankfurt, presented in the article "Stickmustertücher aus 250 Jahren" some of her wonderful pieces. Her oldest one is the sampler of CSK from the year 1680. A reader of this article discovered the family coat of arms on a cemetery near Nuremberg. Thus a sampler could be assigned to an embroiderer in particular: The coat of arms belongs to the Kress family, one of Nuremberg’s aristocratic families in the past.

"Clara Sabina Kress of Kressenstein" is mentioned in a register of Nuremberg’s aristocracy. The embroiderer was born on 18 April 1668 and deceased 1741. She worked this fine “Nuremberg sampler” at the age of 12 years.
